Hello world!

The famous Hello World! post that marks the beginning of a new blog. I’ll try to explain briefly
about what I’m up to and what this blog is about.

I’ve been involved in the online space for the past 6 years. I completed my undergraduate degree in the Interactive Media stream in the programme for Film and Media Production at UCT, where amongst other things, we explored and practiced imagine editing, web design, Flash animation, 3D modelling, Film production and editing and designing interactions for games. It was during this time that I applied my learnings in a practical sense for SAcamera and SAnotebook, two of South Africa’s successful e-commerce stores.

I completed my postgraduate diploma in Enterprise Management, a practical and pragmatic course on the fundamentals of business management. Our team developed, designed, built, marketed and sold Magnetic Key Racks, yes, Magnetic, and managed to make a hefty profit from our endevours. It was during this year that Rowan Polovin, my business partner and CEO of MyVideo, began to discuss the concept of online video with me. We met on numerous occasions and delved into the research required to start-up our own venture. (On a side note, Rowan and I began talking about MyVideo before the mighty Google bought YouTube, so we’re not after any quick bucks here ;)

Which brings me to my current position as Chief Marketing Officer of MyVideo. It has been an interesting journey since our inception and launch in January 2007 and I have enjoyed learning and growing with the MyVideo brand.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to work and converse with some of South Africa’s top internet and creative minds and I hope to extol their virtues in future posts.

So what is this blog about? I’ve titled it ‘Exploring Multimedia’ however I don’t think the content covered in it will be strictly multimedia. I plan to discuss a host of topics relating to the convergence of multimedia and technology in general. Multimedia is such a nice word to use because it’s open to so many interpretations.

I’ve shamelessly got links to various projects I’m involved with on some level, the main one of which is MyVideo and I’m hoping this blog will help me connect, interact, learn and forge new friends and relationships along the way.

I’m looking forward to being ‘part of the conversation’ – on a more personal level.
